Panchayat

A Panchayat is a collective body of elected representatives formed to carry out the administrative functions of Panchayati Raj Institutions. In the case of a Grama Panchayat, it is the main committee responsible for implementing the decisions of the Gram Sabha and managing day-to-day governance.The main components of a Panchayat are:President: The head of the Panchayat. The President presides over meetings and supervises the overall functioning of the Panchayat.Vice President: Performs the duties in the absence of the President.Ward Members: Elected representatives from each ward of the Panchayat.Standing Committees: Formed to facilitate Panchayat decisions in areas such as finance, development, welfare, health, and education.

History of Grama Panchayat

The establishment of a company called Alagappa Textiles in the 1930s paved the way for the social, cultural, and economic transformation of this region. Until then, the economy of the area mainly depended on forest resources and traditional agriculture. Workers who came from different regions to work at Alagappa Textiles, along with their trade union activities, brought about remarkable changes in the political and cultural spheres of this land.
